Unlocking the Secret to Doing More by Doing Less

Why success isn’t about more time—it’s about better choices

Have you ever looked at someone who seems to be doing it all and wondered, "Where do they find the time?" If you have, you're not alone. But what if I told you that you're asking the wrong question? What if the secret to doing more isn't about finding more time, but about doing less? Intrigued? Let's dive in.

Often, we view high achievers in a particular way. We think they must be super organised, work tirelessly all day, and somehow manage to do everything we do, but also more. But the reality is quite different. The truth is, those who appear to be doing more than you are actually doing less. Yes, you read that right. Less.

The Art of Doing Less

So, how does doing less equate to achieving more? It's simple. It's about what you stop doing that frees up the time to do more. It's about making strategic choices about where to invest your time and energy. It's about understanding that not all tasks are created equal and focusing on the ones that truly matter.

My Personal Experience

While I'd never suggest that I'm "doing it all", I've managed to create a life where I have time to be a present dad and husband, run my Accelerator with 150 businesses, coach clients, host charity networking events, engage in physical activities, read, socialise, and engage with stimulating people online. And I do all this without burning out or feeling overwhelmed.

But how do I manage all this? It's not because I found a magic lamp that grants me extra hours in a day. It's because I made conscious decisions to give up certain things.

What I Gave Up

I don't have lie-ins. I don't mindlessly scroll through social media. I don't feel the need to be on all platforms. I don't write new posts every day. I rarely watch TV. I don't use Twitter to catch up on current affairs. I automate or delegate business tasks that aren't my genius zone. I don't game on my phone or own a gaming console. I sell scalable offers, not just 1:1 coaching. I don't follow a football team. I'm not here for popularity; I'm here for client acquisition.

By giving up these things, I've saved countless hours that I can now invest in activities that truly matter to me and contribute to my success.

The Power of Choice and Sacrifice

Now, you might be thinking, "But I enjoy some of those things. I don't want to give them up." And that's perfectly okay. The point isn't to give up everything you enjoy. The point is to make conscious choices about where you invest your time and energy.

Choosing What Matters

It's about understanding that time is a finite resource and that we need to be strategic about how we use it. It's about choosing to invest your time in activities that align with your goals and values, and that contribute to your success and happiness.

It's about recognising that every time you say yes to one thing, you're saying no to something else. And making sure that what you're saying yes to is truly worth it.

The Role of Sacrifice

And yes, sometimes, making these choices involves sacrifice. It might mean giving up an hour of mindless scrolling to invest in your personal development. It might mean saying no to a Netflix binge to work on your business. It might mean waking up early to get in a workout before your day starts.

But remember, these sacrifices aren't about depriving yourself. They're about making space for the things that truly matter. They're about creating a life that aligns with your vision of success.

What This Means for You

So, what does all this mean for you? How can you apply these principles to your own life? Here are some steps to get you started.

Identify Your Priorities

Start by identifying what truly matters to you. What are your goals? What are your values? What activities contribute to your success and happiness? Make a list and keep it somewhere you can see it regularly.

Then, look at how you're currently spending your time. Are your activities aligned with your priorities? If not, what changes do you need to make?

Make Conscious Choices

Next, start making conscious choices about where you invest your time and energy. Remember, every time you say yes to one thing, you're saying no to something else. Make sure what you're saying yes to is truly worth it.

And remember, it's okay to say no. It's okay to set boundaries. It's okay to prioritise your own needs and goals. In fact, it's essential.

Conclusion

Doing more isn't about finding more time. It's about doing less. It's about making conscious choices about where you invest your time and energy. It's about understanding that not all tasks are created equal and focusing on the ones that truly matter. It's about making sacrifices in the short term to create a life that aligns with your vision of success in the long term.

So, next time you find yourself wondering, "Where do they find the time?", remember this: they don't. They make the time. And you can too.
