Have you ever wondered why some people seem to effortlessly attract business, while others resort to relentless, automated cold DM spamming?
It’s a question I’ve wrestled with—not just from curiosity, but from experience. And oddly enough, I’ve come to one surprising conclusion: I owe a debt of gratitude to the cold DM spammers.
Sounds counterintuitive, right? But those impersonal, templated messages that flood my inbox every week have helped me build an approach that truly works—and one that’s rooted in something powerful: authenticity.
Every time I get hit with an auto-pitch, I’m reminded just how rare and valuable real human connection is. And that contrast? It’s my greatest asset.
In a world of bots, mass-blasts, and “Hey, {firstName}” templates, simply being human is an advantage. When I reach out manually—taking the time to understand who someone is, what they’re dealing with, and how I might be able to help—the responses are different. People engage. Conversations happen.
There’s no push. No tricks. Just a genuine curiosity to understand the person on the other side of the screen. And that shows.
I don’t have a “spray and pray” approach. I’d rather have 5 meaningful conversations than send 500 messages that make people roll their eyes.
Ironically, the sheer volume of cold DMs people receive is exactly what makes a personal message shine.
Because while others are sending hundreds of copy-pasted lines, I’m showing up with a message that’s just for them. That attention to detail—the care in the tone, the relevance in the context—is what turns a message from annoying to engaging.
That’s how deals get done. That’s how referrals happen. And that’s how relationships begin.
I genuinely mean it: I’m grateful for the cold DMers. They’ve shown me what not to do. They’ve built a noise wall so high that a single, real message cuts through like a siren.
Every generic, tone-deaf pitch I get is a case study. It reminds me to stay personal. To stay real. To avoid the short-cut and play the long game.
These messages are frustrating, sure—but they also clarify what works. And that’s a gift.
And the flip side of that gratitude? It shows up when I get messages back from people who say things like:
“Thanks for reaching out like a real human.”
“Appreciate that you took the time.”
“This doesn’t feel like a pitch.”
That feedback tells me I’m on the right path. That being authentic isn’t just a warm and fuzzy idea—it’s a practical, high-ROI business strategy.
So what’s the takeaway?
It’s simple, but it’s not easy: be human.
You don’t need to be the loudest. Or the fastest. Or the one with the cleverest hook.
You just need to be honest. Personal. Curious. Because in a world of automation, real connection is rare. And rare things are valuable.
People aren’t looking for another “quick 15-minute call.” They’re looking for someone who sees them. Who listens. Who cares. If that’s you, you’ve already won half the battle.
We live in a noisy, competitive world. But the irony is, it’s never been easier to stand out.
Not by being louder, but by being more real. More human. More interested in others than in yourself.
So go ahead, cold DM spammers—keep doing your thing.
Because every time you hit send, you make it easier for me to stand out. And for that, I’m grateful.
Let’s build our businesses the better way—the human way.
